I did feel bad fro dragging Dave out of bed on a cold, wet sunday morning - though Dave says he now has the running bug back and is entering the Retford half in March. Those last 5 miles were hard, I needed frequent walking stops, cramped feet and calf, hip and knee pain, however Dave kept up with the encouragement and we finally crossed the line after 2 hours and 21 minutes.my slowest half marathon for 3 years! Less than half a mile later everything went wrong, suddenly Dave was running away from me, other people were passing me and I couldn't understand what was going on! Dave checked back to see where I was and noticed something was up. At 8 miles we took stock - we were on course for 1:58, I was running well, feeling good and was mentally rehearsing my finish. Training during the final few weeks to the run wasn't great but I figured I'd done enough to get around in under 2 hours. I talked my mate Dave into running this with me to pace me properly, as a sub 2hour half is comfortably within his ability. I'd decided to try and get under 2 hours this year, so entered Clowne Half Marathon as a last ditch attempt - even though the Clowne course is known for being a bit hilly. So, I completed my previous two half marathons (North Lincs & Robin Hood) in 2 hours and 2 mins.
